Placenta Brain

I just wanted to throw something out there to see what kind of response I get from the regular readers of this blog, who are most likely medically oriented, and also people who are searching for answers relating to females' mental performance during pregnancy. During my wife's prior pregnancies we found that she could do some really lame brain things, though she is generally very intelligent and high functioning. We had never heard of this phenomenon and therefore discovered this independently, just based on personal experience. It was so bad, that we would regularly jokingly comment that "You're/I'm dumb when you're/I'm pregnant." It was only recently that I learned a term for this, placenta brain. My dad gave me the term when I was telling him about her most recent incidents as she enters her second trimester. Here are the 2 most outstanding things she has done in the last week:

1. She walked out of a restaurant after eating, without paying and didn't realize until she was a few miles down the road.

2. She brushed her teeth with miconazole cream. This is a cream we have putting on our child's underarm for a rash caused by yeast. Yes, she actually put it on the toothbrush, put it all the way in her mouth and started to scrub until the taste grabbed her attention.

I did a little research on the internet and didn't really find a lot of info but here is a site with some discussion and some links to some related research articles.
