Summer Mystery

Summer Mystery....what happened here?

  1. One of our friends was second guessing his decision to get married.... a little too late. I used the fish hook metaphor. "The barb is already in. You are going to have to push that hook on through and go on with the wedding. Then you can cut it off after a year or so."
Of course we were mostly joking. Fortunately they are happily married.

  2. The barb is the clue.

  3. Yes, obviously. The barb is always the clue and simultaneously the problem.

  4. The next clue: it involves fishing.

  5. The fish was so big, it broke your hook.

  8. Are you saying that this is some sort of saga that is ongoing. Hmmmmm....... You have a patient with diabetic polyneuropathy and he walked around with the barb of the hook in his heel for 6 weeks and didn't know it and it ultimately led to a below knee amputation, from which he is now recovering.?

  9. No, here it is. I was fishing in my pond...new rod and reel and the above lure. I caught a small bass and as I was taking the treble hook out of the mouth of said fish, it wiggled and the tail hook, hooked the thumb on my right hand. Hummm now what to do. Well, first I managed to get the fish separated from the lure. Then walked to the man cave, cut the line from the pole leaving only the barb all the way through my thumb(again my right hand). So I see an 11 blade and figure I can cut it out...not a good idea, made only a small incision then gave up on that idea. Okay that leaves the old ER trick which I have never done and can't remember how to do it...or cut the barb off with a wire cutter. So I had to find my wire cutting pliers and with my left hand cut the barb off...mystery solved!

  10. Well that sounds pretty terrible. I don't believe all the suspense was necessary though. In my first comment I gave the correct answer by telling you the story about the metaphorical act of pushing the barb through and cutting it off.

  11. Yes, of course, you were right on the money as usual. However your multiple challenges to "be more active and not leave a stink eye lingering " pushed me to drag out my courageous and dexterous action with a F#*king sharp barbed hook all the way through the thumb on my RIGHT hand.

  12. Job well done. I can only remember one time having a hook in me with the barb completely sunk. I was a kid and my cousin was trying to cast a large lure with a treble hook and he hooked me in the back. He had to cut the line so we could walk home about a mile to see if my mom could help. She got her "good" sewing scissors out and was going to try to cut the hook and then push it through. When she closed the scissors on the hook, it slipped between the blades instead of being cut, which just yanked the hook out, barb and all. It worked out well, and as you know a hook in the back is not nearly as painful as a hook in the thumb.
